Holms, John G. M.2020
Books, Manuscripts
Every family has an untold story of their triumphs and tragedies and the Holms family is no different. This is a family history from their early arrival and settlement in New Zealand; their impetus to support the enfranchisement of women to win the right to vote 1893; as well as including the triumphs and tragedies in war; through to the family's involvement in the natural disaster of the 1931 Napier earthquake; and the contribution to post-war education in NZ. Grant Holms, a former Weir House foundation student, WWII veteran, retired primary school headmaster was prominent at national level representing the Assistant Masters Association and president of the Auckland branch of the NZEI in the period of the 50s and 60s when 50 children in his class was quite common.
