This book forms a supplement to "Early travellers in Scotland", published by P.H. Brown as a contribution to the early social history of the country. The longer of the two narratives is a journal kept by Thomas Kirk of Cookridge, Yorkshire, of a tour in Scotland in 1677. Its first appearance in print was as the appendix to the Diary of Ralph Thoresby, first published from the original manuscript by the Rev. Joseph Hunter, 1830.
